I simply loved this one. It started out quite slow, but it was well worth it to stick with it and keep going. I felt his love and then emptiness, the regret and the anguish and ultimately, his desire for redemption. Once we got into the action, a lot of the story was no longer focused on him. I can see how it was necessary for the storyteller, but I found myself a little upset about the fact and greedy to learn more about our new hero. Of COURSE the ending was both shocker and "why didn't I see that coming?" but it was not unpleasant. I'll admit I was nervous about whether I would like "new Anne Rice," but I've lost all doubt, now. It was wonderful and devastating and beautiful.
