Well, Ms. Roberts has sucked me back in again with four great, and strong, female characters I really connected with. I'm really looking forward to reading more about them in the next three books in the series.
I gained some insight to the cultural and ethnic strife that afflicts the Afghan community. It also provided a fascinating look into the pre-Soviet occuppied era of Afghanistan and a brief and bloody encounter of a Talib controlled Afghanistan. This is a beautiful tale of redemption about a youth growing up in Pre-Soviet occupied era Afghanistan. Amir is struggling to emerge out of the larger than life shadow his father casts. Amir's father is both feared and respected by many. A man that retains his regal elegance through all manner of indiginities and illness. Amir struggles for his father's afection and approval. He must right a wrong committed so many years ago in a distant land and time to finally appreciate how very much he is like his father. Amir not only redeems himself but is able to right the sins of his father.
