A great book. Looking back now, it probably was one of the books that influenced me politically.
Its taken me a while to finish this one - and even now, I cant decide whether I like it. Considering that it was a debut novel, I am happy to give it 3 stars. This is a story of love supressed in a male dominated regime. In jeddah, pre-marital love is a sin. Yet 2 kindred spirits dare to rebel. Silently, from behind veils and closed doors, they express their love for each other, first through notes and then in hushed whisper. But how long can they go on like this in secret? This was an interesting plot set under extreme circumstances. Somehow, the narration disaapointed me. The pace keeps altering, getting really interesting in some parts and really slow in other. And while the the title says consequences of love, it seems that there wasnt a really an end to the tale. It felt that the story was left hanging in its finale. However, being a romantic tale, the romantic parts are well drafted, epsecially the love notes. While Addonia has been successful in beautifully voicing the woman's side, he fails to to do justice to the man's side. I wouldnt recommend the book, but not a complete waste of time either.
